Fixing problems with clipboard on RDP connections

When using Remote Desktop (RDP) connections to access servers, it is often useful to be able to copy and paste files and text from the local PC to the remote machine. Sometimes, however, copy & paste seems to stop working.

My colleague Dave found a blog explaining the cause of this problem.  A process called rdpclip.exe runs on the remote machine and enables the copy & paste functionality.  Sometimes this process gets “stuck” hence copy & paste does not work.

The fix is to kill the rdpclip.exe process using Task Manager and then restart it by entering “rdpclip.exe” at the Start | Run prompt.
